Bubreg Quartett
Biography
Ensemble
Four voices
The Bubreg Quartett brings together four siblings from Reutte in Tyrol: Sara Bubreg (flute), Bence Bubreg (clarinet), Márton Bubreg (saxophone) and Levente Bubreg (bassoon). They grew up in a Hungarian-Austrian family of musicians, and playing together has been at the heart of their musical life from an early age. The unusual combination of flute, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon gives the ensemble a sound of its own.
In changing line-ups – from Duo Bubreg², absolute winners of Concertino Praga in 2018, to the full quartet – the four have shared the stage for more than ten years. Their training took them to the Tyrolean State Conservatory, the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and The Colburn School in Los Angeles. Important impulses came from Michael Cede, Yehuda Gilad, Koryun Asatryan, Dag Jensen, François Benda and Joonatan Rautiola, among others. The quartet enjoys close artistic collaborations with composers such as Martin Rainer, Péter Furák, Jean Matitia and Gregory Wanamaker, whose original works, arrangements and artistic contributions have enriched its repertoire.
As soloists, the siblings have won numerous national and international awards: the Grand Prize at Concertino Praga and at the Silverstein Global Clarinet Contest, first prizes at the Premio Crescendo, the Osaka International Music Competition and the Grand Prize Virtuoso, the Ignaz Pleyel Prize of the ISA International Summer Academy and the WSY Talent Prize of the Wiener Symphoniker, together with many first prizes at Prima la Musica, including in chamber music.
Their concerts have taken them to Carnegie Hall in New York, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Rudolfinum in Prague, the National Philharmonic in Kyiv and the Haus der Musik in Innsbruck. Festival invitations brought them to the Dvořák Festival in Prague and the South Bohemian Music Festival, to Murten Classics in Switzerland, Yuri Bashmet’s Winter International Arts Festival in Russia and the International Tchaikovsky Festival in Ukraine; in Austria to the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival and the MuseumsQuartier Festival; in Spain to the Festival de Primavera of Juventudes Musicales Sevilla and the Festival Internacional de Saxofón in Gran Canaria; and further to Andorra SaxFest, the Afyonkarahisar Festival for Classical Music in Turkey and the Chamber Music Festival Stockholm. As soloists they have performed with the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra, the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Wiener Symphoniker, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and the INNSTRUMENTI Tyrolean Chamber Orchestra.
The Bubreg Quartett combines solo experience with an understanding of chamber music that has grown over many years. Family closeness and mutual trust shape an ensemble sound that unites precision, flexibility and personal warmth.
