Bubreg Quartett wins the Werner Pirchner Prize

Three ensembles, one final – and the first chamber music prize in the history of the Werner Pirchner Prize goes to Reutte. On 5 November the Bubreg Quartett won first prize in the new category “Chamber music for wind ensembles” at the Haus der Musik Innsbruck.

Two days after the semifinal, the four siblings played for the international jury once more, this time as one of the last three ensembles. The prize of the Land Tirol, awarded together with the mdw, comes with 5,000 euros. In the oboe category the prize went to Junlin Zhou from China.

Thank you to the Land Tirol, the mdw and the jury – and to everyone who came to listen and kept their fingers crossed.

Into the final of the Werner Pirchner Prize

Eight ensembles, one round in Innsbruck, three places in the final – and one of them now belongs to the Bubreg Quartett. On 3 November the four siblings played the semifinal, the first live round of the Werner Pirchner Prize, at the Tyrolean State Conservatory.

The prize of the Land Tirol, awarded together with the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, is in its fifth edition this year and has opened a category for chamber music for the first time: wind ensembles of four to eight players. Across both categories, oboe and chamber music, 82 applications from 15 nations came in. The international jury includes members of the Vienna Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg.

The final followed on 5 November at the Haus der Musik Innsbruck.

First single: recording at the mdw Future Art Lab

Next week brings a first for the Bubreg Quartett: on 11 November the four siblings will record their first single in the Future Art Lab (FAL) of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

On the mdw campus, the FAL brings studios for film, sound and electronic music together under one roof – a good place for a wind quartet that wants a recording to feel as close as a concert.

Which piece it will be, and when you can hear it, will follow here soon.
